Welcome to Class 1

Here you will find what is happening in class 1. There will be curriculum help and links to other websites.

Some of the new curriculum changes have been particularly significant in Computing where there is now a heavy emphasis on teaching the children how to program. This is not only a big step up for the children, but also for us as teachers!

However, the children are really enjoying the work we have done so far and many of them have expressed an interest in practising at home. This term we have been using an online resource called Scratch to create backdrops and sprites (characters) in order to prepare for making a short animation!

To enable the children to save their work, I have created a personal log-in for all the children. (Which will be sent home in a letter). An added bonus is that they will also be able to access their work at home and practise getting to know how the resource works. This would be useful as it is a resource that is used throughout the new scheme of work.
If your child would like to have a go at home, they should follow these steps:

Access the website www.scratch.mit.edu
Click on ‘Sign’ in on the right hand top corner
Type in the user name and password
Click on ‘Create’ on the top left hand side of the toolbar
Either start practising on a new project OR to work on a saved liproject, click on ‘File’ at the top left hand side, click on ‘Go to my Stuff’ from the drop down menu and select the desired project by clicking on ‘See inside’.
As you can imagine there are many significant changes for school to implement and you will have noticed that school staff have been out and about on training courses in a bid to keep abreast of current changes! With the exception of renewing our Safeguarding training and some Paediatric First Aid Training, there are no more training days in the diary!
As always if you have any questions about the New Curriculum, please do not hesitate to speak to me at your earliest convenience.

Stay Safe on the Internet.
